The Recipe for Healing: Hope, Safety and Nourishment
Holidays are often about food and family. At Women’s Crisis Services of Waterloo Region (WCSWR), we recognize that healing from trauma requires more than just shelter, it requires nourishment for the whole person.
Hope can often be found in the most unlikely places and helps us reconnect with others, and even more importantly, connect with ourselves. For Lana, a client in our shelter, this was especially true as she worked to rebuild her relationship with food.
For survivors like Lana, trauma had disrupted her relationship with food. While in shelter, Lana worked with our Clinical Psychologist who collaborated with our Food and Nutrition Coordinator to create a recipe for recovery. Through shared cooking groups and wraparound support, Lana learned healthy coping skills, rebuilt her confidence and left shelter with a renewed strength for independent living.
This season, give families the ingredients they need for a fresh start. Help us give the gift of hope to woman and children moving beyond violence!
